Will Younts is a second-year PhD student studying nineteenth century American literature. Their research focuses on historical transness and its relationship to feminist movements in the mid- to late nineteenth century United States. Will’s past as a working musician provides them an abiding interest in the aesthetics of the Black radical tradition and its resonances with gender nonconformity and imagining political futures. This interdisciplinarity is central to Will’s scholarship and has guided them in examining literary representations of pre-sexology trans life, white supremacist paternalism, genderless childhood, and diasporic musics.
