Our department regularly hosts events geared towards professional development for our majors and minors. Below are a list of upcoming events hosted by either the department or the university to help you prepare for your professional development.
November 11 – Confident Connections: Practical Ways to Build Your Network (VIRTUAL)
Join Student Success on November 11th from 4:00–5:00 p.m. for Confident Connections: Practical Ways to Build Your Network. At this virtual session, come and learn strategies to build authentic connections in order to build your professional network!
November 12 – Real Talk: Internship Advice from UT Students
Learn more about internships from people with first-hand experience with Real Talk: Internship Advice from UT Students on November 12th from 5:30–6:30 p.m. Listen to other UT students’ first-hand accounts on how they landed their internships. Learn what to do (and not do) to find internships, recognize common challenges, and how to build your network through career fairs and other opportunities.
November 18 – MA Roundtable
Thinking about applying to a Masters in English? Join a panel of professors and current graduate students to learn more about the ins and outs of the process including researching schools, preparing your writing portfolio, writing a statement of purpose, and more!

Learn how your English degree can work in a variety of fields with Shifting Gears Without Starting Over: Careers Beyond Your Major on November 19 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. Come out for a discussion on the different ways for you to explore and understand the career options available to you!
