Christopher Christiansen studies the historical and theoretical relationships between American literary and religious traditions in order to consider the ethical and existential stakes of tracing their continuity across generations and remembering them within the context of contemporary American culture. The urgency of this approach is motivated by a secularism informed by a close study of religious sources and a critical stance towards modern secularisms, especially in terms of the threat these secularisms pose to interfaith dialogue and cultural memory.
