Research Interests: Medieval manuscripts and literature, romantic texts, medieval grief, gender theory, sexuality studies, art history, classics, cultural legends & practices, Abrahamic religion texts, pre-1500 monsters, Greek theatre, liturgical texts, grief & funerary rites.
Aspyn Freeman is a Graduate Teaching Associate in UTK’s English Department. Aspyn earned her bachelor’s in English from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2022. Her research focuses on the analysis of feminine and familial grief in medieval texts and early culture. Her research combines not medieval culture, but also ancient Greek and Anglo-Saxon. Aspyn’s recent work and research took her to Vercelli, Italy where she performed as part of a digital humanities team documenting, analyzing, and working with thousand-year old manuscripts. Beyond her work in English, Aspyn enjoys engaging with art history and utilizing illuminated manuscripts to inform her way of thinking and considering literary texts.
