Maggie Warren (she/her) is a fourth-year PhD student in Literature, Criticism, & Textual Studies. She studies contemporary literature, and when not reading poetry, she’s interested in horror, magical realism, memoir, and drama. Her dissertation focuses on poetry collections that innovate elegiac conventions through experimental forms. She has been recognized with both the John C. Hodges tutoring award and the David A. Hambright teaching award.
Building and sustaining community amongst her peers is something Maggie cares deeply about. Previously, she served as the GSE Chair, a NEXUS Conference Co-Chair, and a program assessment research assistant; her other activities have included tutoring and training tutors with the JAHWC, helping local high schoolers write college application essays, and collaborating with fellow GTAs through STEER, the pedagogy group. This year she is the Percy Adams Research Assistant, and she’ll be working with Dr. Katy Chiles on her manuscript and on planning Fredrick Douglass Day.
Her studies in contemporary poetry and experimental forms intersect with her writing practice. She will be Poetry Co-Editor for Grist: A Journal of Literary Arts on Issue 19. Her recent & forthcoming creative publications include poems in the Connecticut River Review, SWWIM, HAD, Psaltery & Lyre, ONE ART, and Red Branch Review.
