Madison Fuentes is a first-year M.A. student in the Literature, Criticism, and Textual Studies program. During her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, she became intrigued by the relationship between scientific perspectives of the brain and questions of subjectivity and consciousness related to the mind. While fascinated by the insights of neuroscience into the fundamental, synaptic mechanisms of human drive and behavior, her primary interest shifted toward a biopsychosocial approach to how literature is written, read, and utilized as a cultural object.
After graduating in 2021, Madison moved to Nashville and began working in communications and marketing for an outpatient therapy practice; she then transitioned to the creative field of video production to pursue her love of visual storytelling. Now, Madison is eager to return to academia and resume studying her literary interests, particularly at the intersection of literature and science.
When she’s not reading or writing, Madison enjoys making her way through her Letterboxd watchlist, collecting vintage mass market paperbacks, and working on a good puzzle.
