John Han
Teaching Associate Professor
Dr. Han specializes in eighteenth-century British literature with a focus on the formation of “the novel” that considers how narrative spaces tell stories of the novel’s purported rise. His book project, Liminal Passages, explores the in-between spatial and literary passages of the lumber-room, stair, alley, and window in eighteenth-century British novels by Richardson, Defoe, Sterne, and Radcliffe. By examining the role these spaces play in novels, his project considers how these places allow these early novelists to allegorize new modes of modern subjectivity.
