Research Interests: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), L2 Writing Pedagogy, L2 Composition and Rhetoric, Language and Linguistics, Multiculturalism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Elizaveta Komkova is a PhD student in Rhetoric, Writing, and Linguistics at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, where she works as a Graduate Teaching Associate in the Department of English, teaching ENGL 101: Composition I and ENGL 102: Composition II. She holds a Master’s Degree with Honors in English from Bemidji State University and a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors in Teaching English as a Second Language from Moscow Pedagogical State University. With six years of ESL teaching experience, Elizaveta has taught internationally in the Czech Republic, Russia, and Bulgaria. Her PhD dissertation explores a multicultural approach to teaching academic writing to ESL students, emphasizing the importance of integrating students’ cultural backgrounds and personal experiences. Her recent publications include her master’s thesis, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Multicultural Approach to Redesigning First-Year Composition Writing Assignments (2024), and a research article, “Methods of Teaching English to ESL Students with Mild Intellectual Disability,” published in Bulletin of Russian State University for the Humanities: Psychology. Pedagogics. Education (2023). Elizaveta is also an alumna of the prestigious YEAR (“Year of Exchange in America for Russians”) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
