Research Interests: Early modern drama. Anglo-Islamic cultural and political interactions during the Renaissance. The role of the Other in English drama, and the portrayals of the Muslim Other by Shakespeare and Marlowe.
Adel is a PhD candidate in Literature, Criticism, and Textual Studies, with a specialization in Renaissance drama. His dissertation, currently titled “English Representations of Muslim Otherness in the Drama of the Late Medieval and Renaissance Eras,” examines the portrayal of the Muslim Other by prominent English poets and dramatists like Chaucer, Shakespeare, Kyd, and Marlowe. Adel’s research investigates how these representations evolved from the late medieval to the Renaissance period, exploring the intersections of religion, identity, and drama. His broader interests include early modern literature, cultural studies, and postcolonial theory.
