Welcome
The UT English Department is a community of writers and scholars who believe that the words we use and the stories we tell are central to the human experience. Our award-winning professors teach dynamic courses across English studies, in literature, rhetoric, creative writing, film, publishing, linguistics, technical communication, and digital humanities. Our students gain the skills they need to excel in a wide variety of professional endeavors. They learn how to communicate with originality and intention. They learn how to think creatively and analytically about writing in its many forms. They learn how to imagine life from different perspectives. And together we ponder enduring human questions about art, identity, culture, freedom, ethics, values, beauty, and other vital topics that have inspired passionate debate for millennia—and that have traditionally defined a college education. Our graduates are writers, lawyers, content creators, executives, educators, entrepreneurs, doctors, and so much more.
