2023-2024 Undergraduate Scholarship Winners

Please join in the English Department in celebrating our undergraduate scholarship winners for 2023-2024.

Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship winner Onyx Bard is a senior in Creative Writing. A Knoxville native, they enjoy traveling, stargazing, playing D&D; they also provide a foster home for cats through the local Humane Society.

Ila June Bigham is a senior in Literature from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. A recipient of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship, she collects plants and is a keen thrift store shopper.

A junior studying Rhetoric, Tiffany Black is a recipient of the William W. Jenkins Scholarship. The Jacksonville, Florida native plays the saxophone in the Pride of the Southland marching band. In the future, she is interested in pursuing legal studies.

Senior Andrew Bragorgos has a double concentration in English, in both Literature and Creative writing. The Memphis native and recipient of the William W. Jenkins Scholarship works as a nurse tech and volunteers with nurses at local schools, and plans on attending medical school after graduating.

Asheville, North Carolina native Hannah Buchanan is a winner of the Edwin Watson Bowe Scholarship. When not reading or listening to music, she enjoys watching movie marathons with her friends.

Annabelle Climer is a junior Literature major from Nashville. A recipient of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship, in her spare time Annabelle enjoys baking, traveling, and learning new languages.

Creative Writing senior Savannah Rose Gray is a native of Knoxville. A recipient of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship, Savannah enjoys painting and is a coffee enthusiast who enjoys studying new ways to brew the perfect cup.

Emma Greene is a senior in Literature from Maryville. A recipient of the Michael Dennis Scholarship, in her spare time she enjoys listening to music and visiting local coffee shops. She is also an active member in a number of organizations, including Sigma Tau Delta, UT’s Student Alumni Associates, and The Walk college ministry.

Knoxville native Josie Grussing is a recipient of both the Patsy Hammontree Scholarship and the Louise and Aileen Seilaz Scholarship. In her spare time, the Creative Writing senior enjoys painting and making pottery, in addition to working on a variety of writing projects.

Maryville native Autumn Hall is a junior studying Literature and recipient of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship. She enjoys practicing yoga and hiking in her free time, as well as (re)watching Gilmore Girls.

Shelby Hansen is a senior in Creative Writing from Fort Worth, Texas, with hopes of becoming a school librarian after graduation. A recipient of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship, Shelby is a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women and Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society. In her spare time, Shelby enjoys crocheting.

Rachel Hodge, a recipient of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship, is a senior in Creative Writing from Franklin, Tennessee. In addition to her work at UT, Rachel’s interests include travel and visual arts, especially painting and drawing.

Taylor Murray is a senior in Rhetoric and Writing, and winner of the Charles and Frances Mangam Merit Scholarship. The McHenry, Illinois native enjoys working out in her spare time, in addition to attending sporting events and participating in various sorority activities.

A well-traveled sophomore in Literature and Creative Writing, Chiara Ravelli was born in Italy and lived in Switzerland and Sweden before moving to Knoxville. She is the recipient of the Felice and Boudleaux Bryant Scholarship, and in her spare time she enjoys listening to music, baking, and cooking.

Abbie Smith is a Senior specializing in Creative Writing and is a winner of the Edwin Watson Bowe Scholarship. The Richmond, Virginia native is a fan of professional wrestling, and hopes to work in the industry after graduation.

Senior Literature major Laura Snyder is a winner of the Michael Dennis Scholarship. In her spare time, Laura enjoys baking, gardening, traveling, and watching movie and television adaptations of the books she’s read.
