Many congratulations to Kirsten Benson, Director of the Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center here at UT. In February, Benson was awarded the 2021 Southeastern Writing Center Association Achievement Award, which recognizes the outstanding, sustained body of work of a writing center director to a particular writing center, the SWCA, and the writing center community at large. If you know her, you know her tireless and brilliant work to develop, support, and expand our writing center, which has become a pivotal point of support for students in all disciplines across the university and for faculty who assign writing in their courses. The Judith Anderson Herbert Writing Center itself has already received recognition with the national Conference on College Composition and Communication’s Writing Program Certificate of Excellence – due in no small part to Benson’s direction and expertise – but the SWCA Achievement Award makes visible her key contributions to making it the success that it is. Too often this kind of labor remains invisible, and we are glad to see her recognized appropriately. Congratulations again, Kirsten Benson – well deserved!
