Dzon Awarded Two Prestigious Fellowships for 2027

Mary Dzon, associate professor of English, has been awarded two fellowships for 2027.
The first of the two competitive fellowships is the Visiting Fellowship at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge. This fellowship is awarded to scholars who have made significant impact in their fields of study, with an international reputation for publishing and intellectual achievement.
Dzon also received the Bonnie Wheeler Fellowship, which supports women who research medieval history and culture, specifically those who are below the rank of full professor. Dzon’s monograph, Divine Wrath in the Imaginative Theology of Late-Medieval England, caught the attention of the fund with its wide exploration of human perceptions of the divine. In it, Dzon engages with writing, prayer, and culture of late-medieval England. The fellowship will enable Dzon to work on her current project on divine emotion and affective piety in the later Middle Ages under the mentorship of a distinguished scholar in the field, contributing to our understanding of premodern Christian views of God and emotions.
The Fellowship Fund was established to honor Bonnie Wheeler, distinguished medievalist and teacher who has made a monumental impact on the field. It aims to help women scholars get past the associate level and become full professors.
These prestigious fellowships will support Dzon in her continued research on medieval literary culture, particularly Middle English and Latin religious literature.
