Communications Internship, Department of English
The English Department is looking to hire two Communications Interns who are English majors or minors for the 2024-25 academic year. Hours are flexible, ranging from 4 to 8 per week during term with pay of $15/hour. If preferred, academic internship credit can be arranged instead of pay.
Duties may include:
- creating content (including with the use of Canva) to post to Instagram and other social media platforms
- documenting via pictures and videos English events, faculty, and students
- writing and editing news items for the department website
- conducting and editing interviews with current students and alumni
- identifying and pitching story ideas to the Director of Undergraduate Studies, to whom interns report

Department of Technology Solutions, University of Tennessee
We’re excited to announce an opportunity for a student technical writer at the University of Tennessee. We are currently seeking a dedicated and creative individual to contribute to our DASH training documentation project.
Project Overview DASH (Dynamic Administrative Systems for Higher Ed) is a new system we’re implementing on July 1st statewide. As part of its rollout, we need clear, concise, and user-friendly training materials. This project will begin immediately and conclude on or around July 1st.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with our team to understand DASH functionalities.
- Drafting easy-to-understand instructional materials.
- Proofreading and editing content for clarity and accuracy.
- Incorporating feedback from team members and testers.
Eligibility
- Current UT students studying Technical Writing, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex concepts simply.
- Familiarity with tech writing best practices is a plus.

Grants Management Intern, Knoxville Leadership Foundation
Mission: The Knoxville Leadership Foundation serves the Knoxville area by connecting communities of resource with communities of need while reconciling people to Jesus Christ and to each other.
Summary of Internship: This is an opportunity for an individual seeking to gain more experience in grant and funding research, writing and planning activities for a non-profit organization. During the internship the individual will gain a clear understanding of the process of researching, applying for, reporting, and managing grants awarded.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Research various types of grants available and the criteria to quality for each • Discuss available sources of funding with leadership
• Collaborate with staff across organization to create drafts and complete grant applications according to application requirements
• Develop and maintain master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants
• Assist in maintaining the annual grant and report calendar • Perform other duties as assigned
Student Editor, Haslam College of Business Department of Marketing and Public Relations
The Haslam College of Business Department of Marketing and Public Relations (MPR) seeks a student editor to assist with various copy editing and minor writing tasks.
Haslam MPR offers a variety of marketing and creative services to meet college needs. From media coaching and research releases to print, video, and web projects, and much more, the team helps refine messages and reach audiences.
As part of the Haslam MPR team, the student editor would work closely with the senior editor to prepare email campaigns, edit faculty biographies, maintain an editorial calendar, work with other team members on copy editing and content creation, and take on other tasks as needed.

Requirements
- Current University of Tennessee English, journalism, or PR Major (any concentration acceptable)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Complete and pass editing exercise
- Interest in editing, writing, and/or marketing and public relations • Experience with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
- Regular access to computer, internet, Microsoft Word, and Adobe Acrobat • Willingness to learn AP Style and Chicago Style
- Ability to commit 10 hours per week

Duration
The position last from the hire date through May 2024 with the possibility of annual extensions through the student editor’s graduate year.
Hours
The student editor must commit 10 hours per week. The actual schedule will be discussed upon hire.

Communications Intern, Humanities Tennessee

Humanities Tennessee (HT) fosters community and civility in Tennessee through engaging programs that examine and reflect upon ideas, stories, history, arts, and culture. In addition to our own programming, we partner with a variety of organizations across the state who are similarly encouraging community dialogue and activities that push us to think deeper and develop mutual respect and understanding for each other.
HT is commemorating 50 years of public programming which includes the Southern Festival of Books (SFB) celebrating 36 years this October and the online literary publication Chapter16.org (Ch16), among several other literary programs.
We are seeking a Spring 2024 intern to support communications efforts on a variety of projects from creating written work to social media, plus research to help inform future communications and outreach plans. This is an opportunity for someone who thinks critically, writes creatively, works well independently, and is driven by curiosity.
Events & Communications Intern, Grow Oak Ridge
Grow Oak Ridge, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is the nonprofit fiscal sponsor of the Jackson Square Lavender Festival, in Oak Ridge, TN, now in its 24th year. Lavender Festival is an herb fair that celebrates good health, local food, sustainability and of course, lavender. The festival attracts approximately 25,000 visitors annually, and was named the Best Festival in 2022 by the Middle East Tennessee Tourism Council.
Grow Oak Ridge is seeking an Events & Communications Assistant Intern for the production of the festival which is June 16 to 18, 2024. Internship is from April 15, 2024 to June 28, 2024.
Applications due February 29th, 2024.
WORK HOURS: This part-time internship would consist of approximately the following hours:
- 5-10 hours per week, remotely, April 15 through May 31.
- 40 hours per week June 1 to 16, 2024.
- 5-10 hours per week after the festival, June 17 to 28, 2024.
- All applicants must be local to the Oak Ridge, TN, area and have access to a computer, phone, internet and space from which to work remotely.
- In-person staff meetings are expected weekly at our office in Oak Ridge.
- 10 to 14-hour days are expected in person during the weekend of the festival, starting before sunrise and ending after dark. It’s hard work but it’s fun!
RESPONSIBILITIES: The editorial intern’s responsibilities will include writing press releases, creating social media content, conducting pre- and post-festival communications with sponsors and customers, wrangling volunteers, keeping sponsors happy, and other tasks as assigned.
Volunteer Intern, Knox Pride
Knox Pride is looking for interns to begin in January 2024. These internships would give students an opportunity to gain experience with grant writing, event planning, project management, writing for social media, and more. Interns would have the chance to work first hand with projects centered on mutual aid, community outreach, and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community here in Knoxville.
Interns may work in a variety of capacities including attending meetings with community partners, working in the Knox Pride thrift store and food banks, setting up events, and other hands-on activities. All interns are encouraged to develop a passion project to complete while serving in this role.

Editorial Intern, April Gloaming
April Gloaming, a nonprofit independent press based in Nashville, TN that aims to capture and better understand the New South, is looking for an editorial intern. This internship would run from January through June of 2024. The intern’s responsibilities would include: reading unsolicited submissions of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry; working with the social media team to create content; copy editing; and more. Applicants should share a passion for Southern literature and the many different forms it may take.
